Resource Guide to Microfinance Assessments

The Resource Guide compares five of the better known MFI assessment services (Accion's CAMEL, Woccu's PEARLS, Planet Rating's GIRAFE, Microrate and M-Cril) and examines the implications of MFI assessments on donors and investors on funding decisions. This paper is part of a trilogy of CGAP reports on financial transparency in the microfinance sector, and should be used in combination with the other two:

• Focus on Financial Transparency which describes the activities of CGAP and other industry players in this area;
• Financial Transparency: A Glossary of Terms which defines the often confusing terms related to financial transparency.

The paper concludes that microfinance assessment can contribute to improving transparency in microfinance.
