The handbook also includes sample performances for each indicator to help understand issues and challenges in calculating them.

The handbook also discusses specific interpretation issues, stating that:

  • Microinsurance programs are highly variable and differ with respect to products, modes of distribution, management capacity, etc;
  • Comparison between program sometimes becomes artificial and should be done with caution;
  • Benchmarking helps managers to compare the performance of their programs with industry peers and identify ways of performing better.
