Setting FinEquity's Next Agenda: We Want Your Input!
It’s no secret that climate change disproportionality affects women. One quarter of all economically active women across the world work in the agriculture sector, which is increasingly challenged by rising temperatures that threaten women’s income levels and availability of food. Women also face challenges from climate change across a host of other factors – from increased vulnerability to gender-based violence to lower access to support during and after climate shocks.
FinEquity’s 2023 Annual Meeting spotlighted how women, who are often the first victims of these impacts, can play a central role as actors of change in the climate transition.
FinEquity 2023 Global Consultation
As a FinEquity Technical Advisory Committee and FinEquity ALC Regional Advisory Group member, I was happy to facilitate the launch of the FinEquity 2023 Global Consultation with a voting exercise during FinEquity’s 2023 Annual Meeting. Over 200 people participated to share their thoughts on the leading priorities for FinEquity to collectively advance progress on women's financial inclusion. It was no surprise to me that the nexus between climate change, financial inclusion, and women’s empowerment came up as a strong priority! The voting also revealed key actors that we should be involving and the need to work through a variety of financial services adapted to women in both rural and urban settings.
FinEquity is now broadening this consultation to make sure it hears the community and remains member driven. Please take five minutes to share your input through this survey!
