Exploring the Impact of COVID-19 on Livelihoods in Africa – The Effect on Remittances
DFI and Cenfri are hosting an Africa digital dialogues series to explore the impact of COVID-19 on livelihoods in Africa. The series will focus on the impact on migrants and remittance receivers, informal small businesses and gig workers who are sees as some of the most vulnerable.
This first webinar will be moderated by Hennie Bester, and will explore the impact of COVID-19 on foreign migrants and remittance senders in Africa as well as potential responses from governments, development partners and the private sector. Specifically, it will look at the impact of COVID-19 on remittances in South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. It will also look outside of Africa to understand how fast countries typically take to recover after a crisis or disaster.
