MSME Finance in Uganda - Status and Opportunities for Financial Institutions
Insight into the financial needs of MSMEs and consequent product development opportunities
2 pages
Ugandan micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) account for over 80 percent of the country's manufactured output, contribute about 75 percent of the GDP, and employ over three million people. However, many are unable to leverage their growth potential because of the challenges they face in accessing finance.
This note features MSMEs’ access to finance in Uganda and charts a potential roadmap for banks and other financial institutions as they expand and downscale to serve the MSME market. It provides an assessment of the Ugandan MSME sector, its financial needs and consequent product development opportunities for financial service providers.
