How MIX's desk review can help build a reliable social performance dataset in microfinance

In this article, MIX’s Director of Social Performance, Micol Pistelli, discusses the microfinance industry’s current lack of a common infrastructure to ensure the availability of reliable social performance (SP) data that can be used for meaningful analysis and actionable decision-making. In response to this information gap, MIX introduced the SP Desk Review to serve as a data quality control of the SP indicators that are reported to MIX. Expanding on the proven effectiveness of the SP Desk Review’s methodology, this article ultimately represents a call to action for investors and financial service providers to leverage the SP Desk Review and jointly build an infrastructure for SP data verification.
