Follow-Up: Does Foreign Ownership in Microfinance Interfere with Local Development?

In December 2009, Appui au Développement Autonome (ADA) published a Discussion Paper based on a recent trend towards more foreign ownership in microfinance called Does Foreign Ownership in Microfinance Interfere with Local Development? This paper was presented at different conferences, seminars, and workshops. These questions were also discussed with microfinance sector professionals through email debates.

This Follow-Up Paper takes up some key points from the original Discussion Paper and summarizes the opinions expressed during the different discussions. It also evaluates the concrete proposals made by the participants and provides an opinion on what future actions may be possible.
