Think Piece on SEEP Value Chains and the Poor Working Group

This document provides information on a new working group formed by the SEEP Network called Value Chains and the Poor.

The document provides an overview of the Value Chain approach in microenterprise development, and highlights some of the major challenges in developing value chains. The challenges include:

• Lack of road network which can facilitate moving goods and services efficiently and cost effectively;
• Disabling environment in the form of corruption and kickbacks;
• Remote locations, poor infrastructure and gender and ethnic minority bias.

The document concludes by providing a list of activities planned for the group in the year 2006, and directions for becoming a part of the Value Chains and the Poor Working Group.
