The International Conference on Financing for Development, in 2002, underscored the need for mobilization of domestic financial resources, in addition to international resources, to meet development goals that include poverty eradication and human development. In this context, this report provides an overview of domestic resource mobilization for development in Asia and the Pacific, as well as that for microfinance.It reviews country cases in the banking sector and microfinance in order to disseminate country experiences and draw lessons for guiding policy:
- Country studies on the banking sector include China, India and Thailand,
- Studies on microfinance cover Bangladesh, the Philippines and the republic of Korea.
The report contains eight sections dealing with the following:
- Mobilizing domestic resources for development in Asia and Pacific: An Overview;
- Mobilizing domestic finance for development and credit crunch causes and cures: Some evidence from Thailand and other east Asian countries;
- Banking sector reforms in The People's Republic of China;
- Assessment of India's banking sector reforms from the perspective of the Governance of the banking system;

- Bank loans to micro-enterprises, small and medium sized enterprises, and poor households in the Republic of Korea.
