MoneyBoxAfrica, an initiative of Integrated Capital Services limited (ICSL), Nigeria's leading technology-focused investment and financing institution, has partnered with paybox solutions AG (paybox), the mobile payment enterprise solutions company headquartered in Germany. The new partnership leverages paybox's Mobiliser platform and the Money Mobiliser product to offer the largest mobile financial ecosystem across Africa starting from Nigeria. Representatives from MoneyBoxAfrica, ICSL and paybox will showcase the new system at the African Banking Technology Conference on May 7-8, 2008 in Lagos, Nigeria.
MoneyBoxAfrica's mobile payment system is based on scratch cards and is enabled by mobile phones. Customers can remotely save money into their accounts, top up their phones, pay utility bills, buy insurance, send money to friends and relatives, withdraw cash at agents' locations or ATMs, get access to credit and make investments. Additionally the system provides basic m-Payment services with minimal sign up barriers.
MoneyBoxAfrica also offers end customers an easy upgrade path to a stored-value-account and eventually a bank account. Eckhard Ortwein, paybox CEO, said, "Our partnership with MoneyBoxAfrica gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the transformational benefits of a mobile banking solution in an emerging market economy. In a cash-dominated market, offering a banking solution to anyone with access to a mobile phone has a huge potential."
